Archery Products
Advice on a crossbow.?
I know little about them so any overview on specifics would be highly appreciated.
I listed the questions I felt the most need in knowing below.
#1 How much does it cost to get a decent one? I've seen prices varying from $150-1200. I want a reliable one but really don't want to spend more than 500 tops. It must be capable of being accurate from at least a couple hundred yards away, ideally 300+
#2 How much noise do they make in shooting? Could I shoot one in my back yard in the country without it raising attention?
#3 Would factors such as wind or rain make them far more difficult to use in comparison to say a rifle?
#4 Is there any Brady Bill type law or other state governing of sales of archery products?
this is like asking someone what their favorite bow is.you ask 25 people and you will get 25 different answers.these crossbows can not cost upwards of $1300.you do not have to spend all that money to get a good crossbow,the best basic brand that is just as good as the expensive ones is the horton crossbow.they have a wide range of styles.to get the top end it can cost you around -&700-$800/i gave $599 for mine.i have had it about 7-8 years.it is still great.hortons are rugged but also nice.i would get no less than a 175lb pull crossbow.never shoot 4 blade broadheads as in a crossbow they will catch air and move off target.horton will tell you this also.i have killed deer,hogs,coyotes,coons,armadillos,fox,bobcats, and turkeys.bass pro shops and cabelas has a good array to chose from.i am not saying horton is the best,the expensive ones like to tell you they are very accurate out to 50 yards.that is bs.they are happy to hit the targets.i have gone out as far as 40 yards with my horton and it still went completely thru a 200 pound hog.i shot a 25pound hog at close to 50 yards.i used aluminum bolts to start and that will cost you a fortune.a simple shot can bend the shat and it goes in the trash.i now use carbon express bolts.i use 3-blade 125 gr muzzy broadheads.if anything happens to the broadhead all you have to do is send it back to horton and they will replace it free.i will put my $600 horton against any $1200 crossbow.there is simply not enough difference to warrant the different in price.there are just too many things that you will need to learn and i could just keep writing.if you have any more question feel free to contact me.
