Secondaries Feathers
how can you visually sex a juvenile female cockatiel?
i have a baby cinnamon cockatiel whose wingfeathers {primary and secondary} flight feathers are full of spots.
they told me that when all the flight feathers have spots, it a female. but when it's only on the first seven feathers have spots, it's a male.. is this true?
thank you....
monsoy.....
Depending on the age of your bird, part of it is correct.
Up till the first moult at about 4-6 months both male and
female have the spots or bars.
When they moult the female will keep these spots under the wings and tail feathers.
Remember at this age your bird needs plenty of Cuttle-bone and Mineral block, to help it through the moult.
A male will loose them.
Actually the Cinnamon is one of the easiest to sex like the normal,as the spots are more predominant.
I have bred hundreds of different mutations over many years and always had a soft spot for Cinnamons.
Good luck.
